One of the main advantages of the Sony PlayStation 5 was the super-fast loading from the system’s solid state drive, which means that games will load extremely quickly. However, some new patches for older games have shown that incredibly fast loading is now possible in some PS4 games – even without an SSD.

VGC has reported that several older Sony games have received updates recently, likely to prepare them for backward compatibility, and at least The Last Of Us appears to have dramatically cut load times in the process.

In the video below from ElAnalistaDeBits you can see a comparison of the download of The Last Of Us Remastered on PS4 before and after the patch. The video shows the initial 90 second load has now been reduced to just under 14 seconds. Reloading the save file may take over 2 minutes in the pre-fix version, but now the download seems to hover around the same 14 second point.

Exact load times can vary between systems and hard drives / SDDs, but regardless of your settings, the game will now load much faster.

Sony’s first products in 2020, including The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima, benefited from incredibly fast loading times – it is possible that some new technology was retroactively applied to Naughty Dog’s first Last of Us game. now.
